Osa Peninsula

It is located in the zone of life corresponding to the tropical very humid forest of South the Pacific region of Costa Rica, and can say that no other wild area of the country protects the present resources of plants and animals in this region. This wild area is considered an excellent laboratory living, in where it is possible to be studied the structure and the operation of the tropical ecosystems and the realciones among them.

 

 


500 species of trees in all the park exist, which is equivalent to one fourth part of all the arboreal species of Costa Rica. The tropical forests rainy prote'ge's of the area not only constitute the best thing of those ecosystems in the pacific slope, but also the latest of them in the Central American region.

The park protects diverse species that are in danger of extinction like the felines and great reptiles; it protects in addition, species of endemic birds or restricted distribution. One knows the existence 104 species of mammals, 367 of birds, 117 of amphibians and reptiles and 40 species of freshwater fishes.

 

Between the most excellent fauna, we found the moose, the jaguar, puma, manigordo, the giant anteater, cariblanco; monkeys like the Congo, carablanca, the Colorado and the squirrel; red lapas, the white sparrowhawk, the gallito of water and the granadera turkey hen. In addition, the king of buzzards, the mount hen, the dwelled dove, the toucan tip two-color pencil or curré, the catano or zapoyol, martín rock, the cacique and several species of colibríes.

The park constitutes one of the most important sites of the conservation area, for the protection of the lizard and the crocodile.
